Watching this ep again, the weights being shipped out 'to weightlifters doing a tour of the Middle East' storyline is rather hokey. The cast iron weight plates seen in the episode are the kind manufactured for use in homes, the type you might buy from Argos. Weightlifters only use Olympic 'bumper' plates with a rubber coating & they don't 'tour', they attend competitions where obviously the standard & very heavy plates are provided for them. And how did they melt the gold bullion down & cast it as weight plates?

I read that she's now the wife of film director Stephen Frears, her real name is Anne Rothenstein. Her mum & dad were artists & since 1982 she's been a painter herself. This is her site- www.annerothenstein.co.uk/You can see the family resemblance in these smudges of her mum, artist Duffy Ayers & her daughter, actress Lola Frears. Ok, that's enough stalking for today

Good question that is Arthur, How did they melt the gold down and cast it into those weights ? I wondered the same Recently when I watched it. I have a set of those "Body Sculpture" weights except mine are blue, not silver like the ones in the episode. I got them from a friend years ago but never realised until I watched Golden Boy how old they really are.
Good episode though, I enjoy watching this one and my favourite scene is the one where Miss Drummond says to George, He's left Bernie in charge and the lucky B*****d is going to marry me, The boss's Daughter. Does that make you Jealous Sargeant ? To which George Simply replies "Yes". The look on George's face. Brilliant.

I was very skinny as a lad, could see all my ribs & spine, I got a set of vinyl weights & a Bodysculpture bench from Argos, the weights are long gone but the bench I still have. Some good moments in the episode, even the weaker ones are usually redeemed by some memorable dialogue or character. A bit too ambitious this episode, has gold bullion ever been stolen & then disguised so easily? Two dozy guards fooled by a dodgy looking Dudley Sutton & dodgier looking bungling blaggers. Not sure you'd be able to walk into a bank today disguised as a cleaner & make off with gold bars
