Today marks 36 years since Gary Holton sadly passed away at the age of just 32.

Sadly it was one of those life events where you remember exactly where you were when you first heard of it. I was driving home along the M3 after working overtime over the weekend and heard it on the 5pm news on the car's radio. I'd wondered if I'd heard it correctly so put the TV on ready for the news when I got back home where we were sad to see it confirmed.
A great talent taken too early.

I saw it on the evenings edition of Central News East - Anna Souberry (now MP) read the story.
I vividly remember a few days after, when the Press went to town with the story. My Dad kicked off over the tripe they had printed about him in the past and then following his death. Not what his family/friends/colleagues needed.
All those people who were lucky enough to either work with or meet Gary; they all said the same thing - he was a great chap to be around and made time for everyone. Very down to earth.
Such a sad loss.

Here's a clip of Gary performing with two Sweeney stars, Paul Jones & Julian Littman ( Ray Winstone's friend in 'Loving Arms' ). On piano is Brian Protheroe, if you've ever watched 'First Dates' he is the narrator. Gary sings about the 2 minute mark.

Tenuous link but there is a poster advertising "Heavy Metal Kids" in the Public Eye episode "The Fatted Calf" (1975) at around 21.27 in the video below. RIP Gary, always remembered.
