I've just heard that Alan Hawkshaw has died at the age of 84, so much of his work will be very familiar to some on here, not least his wonderful theme to 'Dave Allen At Large'.... www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-58942671Villain

Sad news. I'm a keen fan of library music from the 60s to 80s and Alan's name is probably the best known of all the talented composers, musicians and band leaders of the genre. A Leeds lad too.
I hadn't realised until recently that he'd started as pop session musician working with Bowie and many others, rather than coming from the classically trained composer route. RIP.

Very sad news indeed. A prolific producer who's songs will remain popular forever.
A few of my favourites that are a regular soundtrack to my motorway driving.
RIP Alan and thankyou so much for the soundtrack to so much of my daily routine.
Gene.

RIP Alan, 'the hawk'.
I like this early David Bowie track on which he plays the Hammond organ-

RIP Alan Hawkshaw, composer also of The Grange Hill Theme, which had been composed some years before entitled "Chicken Man" and was chosen for the series.
I actually remember it was briefy also used for Give us a clue from 1979 to 1981, but while Grange Hill used the original library recording, Give us a Clue used a less dynamic custom arrangement more in keeping with the style of light entertainment programming.
Many other recognisable tunes too.

RIP Alan a musician who's work is all around TV from the 70's/80's and gave Grange Hill it's signature too.
Thanks for the contribution to TV and music too.
