Great picture. A few proper motors on the car park and that could be 73. Even the fairly recent building in the background looks vaguely like something which could have been there then

Yes, it was, once again, another fantastic and brilliantly prepared meet organised by our forum guvnor Gene Hunt, the Gene Genie! It was a relatively quick journey for me to Manchester by train and I soon met up with the usual regulars in the Port Street Beer House on Saturday afternoon - Get Carter had a prezzie for Gene... a Roger Whittaker album. After checking into the hotel we all went out on an evening pub crawl around the city centre. Some great beer, food and banter on that particular evening. On Sunday morning a new face, Cartman, appeared and joined us for the main event of the day: visiting Life on Mars filming locations on foot (in the morning) and by car. My favourite was probably the police station in Stockport but they were all great. And after a tasty Sunday roast in The Olde Boars Head in Middleton at lunchtime, it was off to some more top locations in the afternoon such as Sam Tyler's childhood homes and the canal scenes, where there have been a few changes made to the surrounding area in the last few years. It was back to the hotel after the Aspin Lane scenes location, the final one of the day, before another few drinks and a meal in Manchester on Sunday evening - it then was sadly all over. Thanks to Sam Tyler, Del Boy, The Saint and all those members who attended and made it such a great weekend. Special thanks to Peter Picard who drove me, Windy Miller and Cartman to the various locations in and around Greater Manchester. Hopefully the sat-nav on my phone was of some use too despite not much battery! Thanks also to Get Carter for the Gene Hunt books! Of course there is always a special thank you reserved for Gene who puts so much time and effort into these events wherever they are. I do hope these meets continue and that there are so many more to look forward to during the coming months and years. Cheers Vi

It sounds like a cliché, but I can say with all honesty that that was the best Meet there’s ever been. Many thanks to Gene Hunt for organizing it and bringing it all together. There’s a significant amount of work goes into the planning of these weekends, and what you do is very much appreciated Gene.
The characteristically damp Manchester weather didn’t hamper proceedings, (other than shortening our stop at the churchyard), nor did it interrupt the flowing conversation, laughs and banter that is such a wonderful feature of 4:3tv Meets.
I thought Gene’s public house itinerary for the Saturday evening was absolutely spot on with all establishments receiving a definite thumbs-up. A great way to get the weekend started properly.
Sunday was a terrific day visiting some of the key and most iconic Life On Mars locations; both in Manchester city centre in the morning and then around the Greater Manchester area in the afternoon. Thanks to Peter Picard for driving, to Vienna for the navigation, and to Cartman for adding the extra local knowledge to the journey.
Thanks as well to Get Carter for the Gene Hunt book which I read on the train back home.
Finally, thanks to everyone who attended and for making the Meet so enjoyable and welcoming.

Another fantastic weekend from start to finish! On Saturday morning myself, Gene Hunt, Del Boy and Dirty Epic set off early in Gene Hunt's Audi Quattro and arrived in Manchester where we parked up and headed for breakfast at Wetherspoons to set us up for the day ahead. After breakfast we had a wander round and then settled down for a few afternoon beers; first back to Wetherspoons and then we were joined by several other members and enjoyed a relaxed afternoon of chat in the excellent Port Street Beer House. After returning to the hotel to check-in and freshen up we headed out for the evening and visited a couple more excellent pubs before our evening meal. Quick as a flash the evening was over and it was time to retire for the night at the hotel. Sunday morning we were up early and headed out for breakfast to fuel up for the morning walk about tour. As always, Gene Hunt delivered one top location after another and we were then ready for lunch. Lunch was taken at the excellent Olde Boars head and we then enjoyed plenty more top locations on the drive about tour. The day flew by and it was soon time to call back in the hotel before a couple of beers and our Sunday evening meal. The evening was soon over and it was time to retire for the night. On Monday morning myself and several other squad members net up for breakfast and said our farewells before making our way home. Thanks Gene Hunt for an excellent return journey. I would like to say a massive thank you to Gene Hunt for all of the hard work and meticulous planning that goes into all of these meets. I think I speak on behalf of all of the members when I say that we are amazed at how you do it and your attention to detail is second to nobody's! Thanks also to Get Carter and Candy Girl for driving myself and Brown Granada about on the afternoon tour and the great banter in the car; thanks also for the Gene Hunt books. Thanks also to each and every member who attended for collectively making it the fantastic weekend that it was. It truly was one of the very best ever!!! Here's hoping that there are many more! Thanks all Steed
