Very sad to report that Avril Elgar has passed away. Maybe not a name that is immediately recognisable to some but Avril was seen regularly on TV many years ago, in things like Dixon Of Dock Green, Softly Softly, Z Cars, Callan, Budgie, Shoestring, Minder plus much much more. Personal favourites of mine were as Ethel, Mildreds posh sister in George & Mildred, and of course as nosey neighbour Betsy Jane Duckworth in Spring and Port Wine. A lovely lady who took the time to send me a hand written letter 20 odd years ago when I got in touch with her about Spring & Port Wine. She passed away on 17th September 2021 aged 89. R.I.P Avril.

My Dad used to like Avril Elgar. She did have a long career on TV from the late 1950s onwards. RIP Avril

RIP Avril.
Perfectly cast as Ethel in 'George And Mildred' & Mrs. Pinkerton-Jones in 'Give Us This Day Arthur Daley's Bread', possibly my favourite 'Minder' episode, funnily enough I saw her last in a similar religious themed story 'And The Lord Taketh Away', a 'Budgie' episode where she plays a lonely parishoner who Budgie exploits.

Sad news indeed. I think the last thing I saw her in was Goodnight Mr Tom when our daughter was watching it a few weeks ago. R.I.P. Avril

Very sad news. Avril appeared in a lot of TV shows over the years. Apparently though she did a huge amount of stage work, and was well respected for it.
I always liked watching her on TV, and when she appeared on George and Mildred, I thought she out shone the rest of the cast which took some doing.
RIP Avril.
