Sir Clive Sinclair has passed away aged 81. His influence on the UK games industry was huge due to his Zx Spectrum computers. After the ZX machines the fantastic Spectrum 48k was a big part of a generations lives.
RIP Sir Clive

RIP Sir Clive.
Some people take the mick because of the C5 but he was a true innovator, came up with some great products, inspired a generation.

Sad news, despite the successes with the computer and calculators he will mainly be remembered for the C5.
R.I.P. Sir Clive

Very sad news. Not sure why people took the p*ss out of him because of the C5 - Clive was an inventor, so not everything was going to work out first time. He brought computing and programming into the home.
Time for a repeat of that Docu-Drama with Alexander Armstrong in the lead as Sir Clive.
RIP Clive and thanks for all the fond memories of spending hours staring at loading screens as a kid.

My thoughts exactly, the C5 isn't his legacy, it's the other stuff. He was making miniature radios before anything else, before the ZX81 and ZX80 there was the MK14, a much simpler microprocessor for hobbyists. He invented a novel way to make the displays smaller in his calculators and pioneered a number of other techniques to make devices smaller. Compromises had to be made of course to make them work, but they did work and launched thousands of careers. Well done sir! Top work.

RIP Sir Clive.
A true pioneer in the home computing and technology sector who perhaps didn't quite get the same acknowledgement as say Steve Jobs (Apple) or Bill Gates (Micosoft) get but has a had as much of an impact.
I had a ZX81, Specturum etc. and as primitive as they seem now with cassette loading of the games/programs it created the market for what Sony (Playstation), X-Box (Microsoft) and Sega etc. would successfully exploit in the coming decades.
The C5 was a great idea perhaps badly executed and in mid-80's traffic levels perhaps not the safest and sadly it's failure led to Sinclair selling out to Amstrad and computing side of the business eventually fading away. There was also the 'Sinclair Trike' as given away by Bullseye which was 30 years ahead of the game for the current electric bike boom, I wonder if this was more successful than the C5 at the time. What killed these ideas was the charging and range of the batteries back then... not 300 mile range you get these days.
Thanks Clive for your contributions to the computing, technology and innovation industries and you'll be missed.

He was well ahead of the curve before so many others tried to make home computing and home gaming the cultural phenomenon that it is today...!!
I'm still desperate to get behind (or on top of!!) the handlebars of a C5!
Also, may I just say that it's very sad that his passing is not headline (or at least a few articles below!) news on a certain online British news outlet that Broadcasts as a Corporation. I think he was one of the greatest British people of our generation...
RIP Sir Clive...
Keep on programming!!
