I just vaguely remember this. I don't know what it was called, but it was quite good. It was on in early 1978 and I think it was filmed in Stockport. It was about this bloke who was a huge fan of 50s rock and roll and looked like a Ted, he drove a Mark 2 Zephyr convertible.
He had a big collection of rare 50s records and wanted to be a DJ. Eventually he did get a booking, because the regular guy was ill and started playing his 50s stuff instead of current music, which was what was wanted, and it didn't go down well, so he got chucked out.
Anyone remember this?

Sounds like the Play For Today 'Long Distance Information' ( except it's not set in Stockport & he doesn't drive a Zephyr ).
There was also a Screen Two play on a similar subject starring Lenny Henry called 'Coast To Coast'.

It wasn't either of those two, Arthur. I've had a look through the Play for Today archives and I can't see anything relating to it, making me think it was a Granada production.
I am certain on the approximate date, it was definitely early 78, February/March probably, I remember having a chat about it at school with this lad I knew who was also into old cars, and we both liked the Zephyr.
I've also tried Imcdb, which is a database for cars, trucks and buses in films/TV, and there was nothing relevant in it for either a Mark 2 Zephyr or Zodiac

I'll have a look at the TV Times scans I have of those dates & see if I can spot anything.
