Heavyweight boxer who fought and lost to Ali, Bugner and a few others.
Did well after boxing though.
RIP Brian.

He was indeed a top boxer, challenged for The Heavyweight title twice, losing to Floyd Pattison and Muhammad Ali. Like so many Heavyweight boxers of the era Brian was around 15 stone, which is considered a Cruiserweight these days. Heavyweights are on average between 16 to 18 stone and effectively a weight class bigger than the Heavyweights of Brian's era.
After winding down losing a few fights against younger opponents Brian went on to run a successful night club business.
RIP Brian

Sad to hear the news that Brian London has passed away. He fought some very high ranking fighters. He was from Blackpool as I recall.
RIP Brian.

Yes I remember him fighting Ali. Good age, 87. Even more so given his profession. Must have stopped in time.

He lived near my late Aunty in Blackpool, you knew which house was his as he had 'LONDON' in large letters on the entrance to his garage.
He was a familiar face with his broken nose, I saw him the odd time in the 80's/90's walking about the town centre. His death made the front page of the local newspaper today.
I notice looking at his boxing record on wikipedia that he fought The Sweeney's Dinny Powell in 1955.

He had a long career in the ring, 1955-70.

I remember he asked Boxing News if they had any photos of him hitting Ali as he couldn’t remember getting close! The calibre of fighter he fought was top drawer and he certainly never ducked an opponent, unlike today. He was a former British and commonwealth heavyweight champion but ultimately (like his contemporary Henry Cooper) couldn’t quite step up to world level. A life well lived, RIP Brian.
