It is with the deepest sadness that I have to tell you that forum member John 'Ronnie Kray' Croft passed away yesterday evening. Back in April, John was given the awful news that he had just 2 weeks left, but he fought the courageous battle of his life and hung on for over 8 weeks. I have been in daily contact with him for a few months now and he always astounded me with his high spirits. I met John many years ago when he attended his first Sweeney Meet. He was a huge Sweeney fan. We got on great from day one and have kept in regular touch ever since. I have some great personal memories of the laughs we have had over the years but I know that those of you who also attended Meets over the years will also have wonderful memories of John. A lovely guy, a loving family man and taken far too early. We will miss you John. I'll always be looking round to find you at the Meets of the future. Rest in peace old pal. Go and find our old mate Jack Regan and have a bloody large single Malt. God bless.

Very very sad news. It is bad enough to see someone taken away that's far too young by this dreaded disease but doubly so when it is someone so close to us and a forum member. Like so many others on here I remember John from previous meets, always cheery and happy to have a good chinwag not only on The Sweeney but also on cars. It was good to see he found the strength to defy the prognosis and squeezed a further six weeks to be with his family and in touch with his friends. A tremendous loss and taken far too early. R.I.P John

That is really sad news indeed.
John was such a likeable and easy going character, and an extremely knowledgeable Sweeney fan too. I was always impressed by the way he used to dress for the occasion, with the leather jackets and polo neck sweaters.
A great guy, and a huge loss for us all who attended the Meets and enjoyed John's friendly banter so much.

It is such sad news that we have lost John, a much valued forum member.
I have very good memories of him - one of life’s good guys, and it was always great to be in his company.
Heartfelt condolences to John’s family.
RIP John.

I was really saddened to hear the news this morning, my thoughts are with his family. John was an incredibly positive guy and he simply refused to give in to his diagnosis. He fought it hard all the way !
I enjoyed chatting with him at many meets over the years not only about The Sweeney but also about Leeds United and their great 70s side amongst other things from the era. John gave me some great recommendations for tv and films to find many years ago, films such as Villain.
RIP John

So very sad to hear of John's passing. He always had time for a chat with me at the meets and was such a likeable chap. Always very knowledgeable about classic telly and old cars. Rest easy mate.

It's hit me hard hearing this. All I can say it's been a genuine privilege and pleasure to have known John and consider him a good mate in many ways on and off the forum. As others have said John was great company and always had time for you and I'd like to remember the good times he brought to the forum and the many meet's he was a part of. I'm sure we'll dedicate our forthcoming meet to a much lost friend who has been very brave in the face of a awful thing. RIP John you'll be very much missed mate.

It was very sad to hear the news this morning that John Croft has passed away. As others have said above, John always seemed a very likeable chap and was very knowledgeable about classic cars and retro TV etc. I first met him on a Sweeney meet in London in 2010. RIP John
