Great idea for a thread Gene Any idea when that photo was taken? I would guess very early 80s. The Saint Woking, 1983 Gene. Well it would be I guess, that's when you live!

Moving swiftly on.... Cars in times gone by: No idea who they are but I found it after a Google search. Those were the days when a drive out was a major excursion and with no motorway services the only option for a snack was to have a picnic but if you needed the khazi then you had to run round behind a hedge. Well whatever he was doing he kept it on the road until about '89! Not that I've got a picture of of it, but patching holes in the bodywork with fibreglass. Fibreglass?
I thought the thing of the 70s was to fill the hole with newspaper (then you can date when the work was done), and then paste over it with filler......

* Police/Local Council/Enforcement "officers" would have challenged them as to "why" they were there and tried to do them for littering.
* The land and the house behind would have been demolished and an Industrial Estate or Houses/Flats each with 2 4x4s on the drive been built. * Cars would be parked bumper to bumper on all grass verges as families descend out for a walk - just because of a bit of sunshine - with their dogs off the leads sh*tting everywhere. * The hillside behind will be on fire as some imbecile chucked a disposable Bar-B-Q on there * To the left of the car, would be a fly tipped matteress and fridge * The people in the picture, would have abuse hurled at them by Oiks racing about the lanes in a knackered ford focus.

A few AA related bits from way back. No need for a Satnav back in the 60s/70s. Just write to the AA and they would send you a detailed personalised route from your doorstep to the destination of your choice... provided you gave them a week or so notice:- If you had the misfortune to break down, it was always best to make sure the car conked out as close as possible to a dedicated AA phone box... ....and to ensure you had the key with you (I think I still have mine somewhere)

I've driven one of those once. It was nice.

Can't find a photo of it; but back in the day - didn't most cars have their water pumps bolted somewhere near the radiator and were easily accessible? - anyone with a spanner could swap it - without the need to remove the timing belt, 90% of the engine?

Yes they were. I swapped the one on my Escort.
