I think the country's been very lucky to have him alongside the Queen all of these years.
RIP Sir.

RIP whether you like him or not he's done many positive things in his life and served his role well and in these days of media spin and profile he was his own man and did it his own way.
99's a great milestone but shame he never made 100.

What a shame he didn't reach 100! after seeing all about his life on tv today, it's made me realise just how much stuff he actually did in life for the greater good! and also before most of us were even born! I admire him though, for his conservationist role he had and towards animals!
RIP

What a character he was. I watched a tribute show yesterday documenting his life which was very eventful throughout. Highly regarded for his Navy service and a veteran of WW2. It was an aspect of his life I wasn't aware of and like all veterans I respect their service.
When the news broke I was listening to Radio 2. The program was faded out mid-sentence into silence before the news flash and subsequent take over by BBC News. Didn't think that was the way things were done these days. Haven't heard a newsflash for many years.
RIP Prince Philip

I think the BBC overdid it with the coverage mind, both BBC 1 and 2 were showing the same coverage all day after it happened and Radio 4 likewise covered it and cancelled everything else.

BBC radio have sombre or downbeat playlists and all that. UKTV went off air for about an hour - and then was back as normal.
Todays BBC coverage got a bit tedious - they had run out of stuff to talk about and had to result to obvious facts about the guns being fired - such as quotes "The bangs were really loud" to gems such as "The ground shook all around"....

Yeah, I thought that! "Ooh, look at all that smoke! etc! Reminds me of William's wedding where they had some knob of actor talking about waistcoats for heavens sake.
