A controversial figure at times but respect due and certainly 99 years is a remarkable achievement.

99 is a good innings
A shame he was cruelly denied the 100th birthday telegram from Mrs Phil though
I'm not a Royalist but still very weird when an ever present dies
RIP

That seems particularly cruel, as you say. He sometimes put his foot in it with what he said but I think he was trying to make jokes that nowadays are seen as inappropriate but you find aplenty on TV and films of days go by.

He has really not enjoyed the best of health in recent years and some members of his family have given him absolutely nothing to smile about recently.
R.I.P. HRH Prince Philip.

Rip Philip
Here he is at ATV-Centre in Birmingham in November 1970. Not on a planned visit, he was on a planned visit to the School of Engineering next door - and as ATV had just opened new studios next door, asked if he could drop in to have a look round.

RIP HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, yes one of those ever present people who will be sorely missed and such a shame he never got to his centenary.
He was fiercely loyal to his wife, family and country and a hard work worker who was always busy. His navy service in the war is appreciated, as well as the decision to give up his career for Royal service.
