I remember glancing at Cosmopolitan occasionally, as copies of it sometimes were left lying around in the tea room at the office I used to work in by some of the girls who worked there. It was a bit of an eye opener in comparison with the ones Mum used to get when I was a kid, Woman's Realm I think, all that appeared to be were knitting patterns and receipes Yes. An Aunt of mine used to buy Women's Weekly every week and it was very plain, ordinary stuff, like cake recipes, how to sew your own maxi frock, things like that.

My sister used to get Just Seventeen. Don't think she read Jackie and My Guy. Misty was a horror comic aimed at girls I remember seeing in newsagents, it ran from 1978-1980, I was 9 in 1980 but I do remember buying a copy & thinking it wasn't very good.
I used to dislike 'style magazine' The Face & others that followed in its wake. Of the music papers I used to buy Sounds regularly in the late 80s, unlike the NME & Melody Maker it concentrated more on the heavier & noisier bands I liked at the time. NME & Melody Maker were more concerned with 'indie' music & the writing struck me as pretentious. Sounds ended in 1991, Melody Maker in 2000, NME ended in 2018 but still exists in digital form.
Also used to buy Kerrang & Metal Hammer regularly for a time in the late 80s, both are still going.
My dad used to buy The Universe, a Catholic newspaper, each Sunday when we went to Mass. It had a crossword in it called 'Hunt The Saint'
From a purely visual, photographic point of view, The Face is a wonderful publication and it's emergence did change things and make other, lesser mags up their game.

I remember many of those in Carty's opening post, particularly Weekend, Reveille, Tit-bits, Look-in as well as the comics. From what I recall the Reveille started going a bit more risque towards the end of its circulation. My parents used to buy it but when the regular "page three" pics started to appear on various pages they stopped buying it. We also had a neighbour that used to have her own lending library of the women's publications. She' go round to each house in turn collecting those that had been bought and read and redeliver for other mothers to have a read. One day when I was about 13 she turned up with a pile of them and my mother asked me to sort them into different piles: Women's Weekly, Womans Realm, People's Friend but then two irregular mags appeared: Health & Efficiency and Forum. Needless to say that they got hidden away to be shared with my mates! Sam.

That reminds me of when my dad discovered a copy of Razzle in my bedroom. He was decorating & noticed it poking out from under a chest of drawers. He confronted me later & being a God fearing Christian he confiscated it. The thing is it wasn't even mine, a lad I knew at school lent it me, he was quite annoyed when he didn't get it back.

In the long run, I'm sure he'd rather not have it back than have it back with most of the pages stuck together Gene Genie.

Yes, there was, and it wasn't a dirty magazine really, a bit mildly rude in places maybe, but no worse than the crap end of the tabloid press. It disappeared probably about the end of the 70s from memory

It's a hilarious name for a mag. How could anyone sell it with a straight face!
