So Get Carter turns 50 !!!! What an iconic brilliant film. We had a fantastic squad meet thanks to Gene and his lads.......we saw a lot of locations and the beach where Carter gets shot .......I’m still looking forward to going back !! I’m useless at linking things but if the Guv can find it.....there’s an article in the Newcastle Chronicle about it and some then and now pics

We will definitely be going back to Newcastle as there are least another couple of Meets worth of locations to get around that you haven't seen yet. Talking of locations - that Chronicle article above have a then & now of the street where Frank Carter lived. They are about 500 yards off target to the West with their 'Now' shot Gene.

Superb film and the best British film ever for me. It's a film that started a love affair with Newcastle and the North East after going there the first time in 2010. I was lucky to see the car park just before it was pulled down. I'm very lucky that my wife also adores Newcastle and we go there as often as we can. Looking forward to another 4.3 meet there sometime in the future, will be awesome.

One of the best British films ever. Just reading and writing about it makes me want to watch it again. So much is great about it, and what a brilliant performance by Michael Caine. I know that he is very proud of the film. I read today that he's just turned 88 . Many happy returns of the day to him.
This forum has had a lot of great location meets over the years, but the Newcastle Get Carter and Likely Lads one stands out for a lot of us.

Tis such a great film innit! and so nostalgic! I remember watching it in the 90s! for the first time. I accidentally turned the channel over to it, from watching summit else! and caught the back end of it! But couldn't believe it when he got shot at the end! was gutted! made to point of watching the film when it was on the tele again and liked it ever since. It's one of them, like the Sweeney where ya never tire of watching really. Glad Michael Cain is still with us! I always get the impression sometimes, and like to imagine that in the film he was actually up there in Newcastle longer than he was! the only thing that frustrates me with the film, is the dubbed Blu-ray version of Gerald and Sid at the beginning! and the realisation that J' was on the train to Newcastle all a long!

A vastly under rated film for years and in the last 20 years or so, it has had a surge in interest from film fans and new generations of viewers. Has always felt like a great atmosphere to visit the locations of where filming took place, the film is undoubtedly a classic piece of cinema

Definitely the best British gangster film ever made, if not the best British film ever made and let's not forget that 'Villain' is also 50 this year and very close behind in my (biased!) view. Both were described as being 'nasty' when first released in '71 by some critics and both have become cult classics. I certainly never tire of either of them. Strangely though, despite both being very bleak films, when I watch them I get a sort of warm cozy glow from them. It is a superb film. I saw it for the first time when it was first shown on BBC, I think, in late 76, and thought it was great. I would love to go on a GC meet too, especially as I've never been to Newcastle!
