Mustn't forget that is has been 30 years today since the great Gary Holton passed away at 33 years of age. He would have been 63 now.
R.I.P Gary.

Thirty years ago today? Such a sad waste, Wayne was a great character and Gary a great actor, he could have done so much more.
I do remember being quite shocked and saddened at the time.
Sam.

Good points PP about the change in character for both Oz & Barry. I also found Dennis to be somewhat different, as was Bomber. The Barry and Tatiana situation just didn't work for me either.
I'm the first to admit that I wanted them to do a series 3 as much as anyone else, but retrospectively, it was never going to hit the heights of series 1 & 2 without Wayne. Bombers illness also gave out a downbeat feeling for the series.
I have all series on DVD for completeness, but series 1 & particularly series 2 are the only ones that get regular viewing.
Gene. Yes, I really didn't like the way that Dennis was ground down post series 2. He never had the best of luck, but even when he was on his uppers to Ali in 2, he still managed to have the leadership qualities that Barry always saw. In 3 and beyond, he was more or less a beaten man. And they still looked to him for leadership! I didn't think Bomber was much different to be honest. And as for Moxey. Refreshingly the same throughout the entire run!

I think the change in the characters has a lot to do with the attitude of the actors playing them. Tim Spall & Jimmy Nail in particular seem to be more ambitious & dare I say it, egotistical, than Tim Healy & Chris Fairbank. I'd imagine that Tim Healy was content to keep playing Dennis the same way whereas Oz & Barry started to become unrecognisable. The writers were at fault as well for allowing the show to become practically unwatchable.

I'm sure I read somewhere that there was an issue with Nail and Spall demanding top billing for S3. You can't believe all you read though I suppose.
