The thing which always irked me about M People were they were/are fairly talented musicians who made quite bland music... more so as the Dance orientated stuff became more and more watered down bland pop. (No disrespect to any fans on here) but I suppose M People are similar to the likes of Simply Red, Lighthouse Family etc. from that period, completely inoffensive yet dull as if you like things a bit (lot) more unpredictable.
It was a good programme and I made a cut and paste of the bits of it I liked... yes that did include A Guy Called Gerald etc. but also things like Magazine, John Cooper Clarke, 10CC and Buzzcocks too. I also liked the Tony Wilson interview pre-Joy Division's performance too.
It should still be on iPlayer for a wee while too.
M People- I think they tapped into a mood of what was selling units in the early 90s. Granted it wasn't ground breaking and to me it hasn't aged well along with their contemporaries that did mainstream stuff. At the time I was strictly underground in my taste but when having to listen to radio in that period (in the car and at work etc) I didn't mind their stuff. It was pretty good when compared to a lot of the chart offerings around at the time. Not a lot to go up against granted.
