Both wonderful films - I marginally prefer That'll Be The Day too
But not a lot to choose between them

Loved both films, but Stardust has the edge over TBTD in my opinion. I think Adam Faith's portrayal of Mike was first class, the chancer side to him plus the subtle Epstein/Lennon relationship hints. Paul Nicholas as "Knee Tremble Johnny", a kind of Pete Best character and of course David Essex playing such an obnoxious character that you still kind of felt sorry for. Time to dig out the DVD again...

I have a double DVD by the BFI, both films. The perfect double bill
Rock on, as David Essex used to say

Time to dig out the DVD again... I have a double DVD by the BFI, both films. Me too and strangely enough, despite having a leaning towards "Stardust" I usually watch them as a double bill. I think it's Adam Faith that makes the film for me. I keep meaning to check out "Budgie" sometime.
