Having checked the guidance around the E10 petrol introduction they are saying that all cars post 2011 are compatible and anything made before that needs to be checked to see if it is. I heard the 2011 date mentioned on a radio advert but don't remember them saying that most other vehicles post 2000 are compatible but need checking. Are they trying to push people to buying a newer vehicle with this sneaky tactic ? E10 explainedI thought this too, I was also on the train of thought that if your car isn't compatible, the new fuel would knacker your engine if you used it.
Eitherway, you are forced to buy a newer model. That sort of thing wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.
Thanks for posting the link Del.
I believe there is some method of getting the Ethanol out of it, there's some stuff on YouTube about it

Someone will find a way There is a way: For my 1980 Suzuki I use that hydrophilic property to separate the ethanol out as I don't want to risk the good condition 41 year old tank rusting out or the carb floats turning to goo. It is not a tricky process but laborious to fill the 3½ gallon tank. I certainly wouldn't want to do it for a 15 gallon tank. There used to be a kit available on eBay to do this but I get the feeling that it was possibly withdrawn for some legal issue. Whether there is an issue or not I don't know but just in case I'll refrain from posting up any YouTube clips on the process. Sam.

Granted Samuel, but as you say not very practical for larger amounts . I should have elaborated on my above post that I was thinking along the lines of for the car whilst the fuel stays in it.

Nice idea Del but the principle is that you need to mix water into the petrol, allow the Ethanol to get absorbed into the water (technically it is the other way round but by putting more water in than necessary you're sure of the saturation of the Ethanol). You then let gravity take over to let it stratify out into two: the water/ethanol mix and pure petrol. A thorough mix in a gallon of petrol will take a day to fully separate so it is not a practical process for refining out on the move.

Nice one Sam, thanks for the breakdown. I don't think i'll be tinkering with it in my shed. It annoys as the whole E10 thing means more tax for the government as cars will be less efficient for the same amount of fuel

Another annoying thing yesterday - I went along to the tyre dealers and was in the process of having the two front tyres replaced on the car. As I was wandering around the car while bored waiting I caught sight of what I thought was a stone wedged in the tread of a rear tyre. I always hook stones out of the tyres so I went to do exactly that only to find that it wasn't a stone but a screw. I called the tyre fitter over to get him to add the puncture repair to the job but he wasted about five minutes faffing around to confirm that it was also leaking air. It was not as if I was going to leave it as was if it wasn't leaking!
I suppose on the one hand I was unlucky that there was the screw in the tyre but on the flip side fortunate that I was already at the tyre dealers when I spotted it.
The extra 24 quid I could have done without though!
Sam.
