I’m guessing your twins are of a similar vintage to me, then! I love those programmes still. Scarface was an evil swine. That programme though, I don’t know if I should credit it with my love of animals - quite possibly! - but it was quite brutal in its realism. Characters were forever getting killed, whether by man or other animals. I almost doubt they’d make it like that today but again, I haven’t seen children’s TV for about 14 years I guess. Hornby made some Farthing Wood figures which I absolutely coveted as a child but they were very pricey so I never had any. They still fetch crazy sums on eBay if boxed! I had several plush characters from Old Bear; Jolly Tall amongst them! Good times . The music in Farthing Wood was very good looking back, too. In the way that traditional TV music was good.

Anyone remember Andy Pandy, Bill and Ben or the Wooden tops on Watch with mother?! Yep!. All of those, including The Herbs, with Constable Knapweed, Bayleaf the gardener, Lady Rosemary and the one and only Parsley et al. The golden age of kids TV. Gene.

Scarface on kids TV? Thought that was Al Pacino

Not quite ... this Scarface was a blue fox with, you won’t be too surprised to hear, a large scar across one eye.

A bit older than you, they're 31 now and as I mentioned once before our twin daughter is a vet nurse with her own menagerie quite possibly as a result of Farthing Wood. She has a thing about foxes too and has rescued a couple from the roadside that have been hit by cars. But yes the stories were very brutal in their realism despite being cartoons yet I think that it spurred her on to have consideration for all creatures. I think we've all digressed a bit from Bagpuss now.... Sam.

Well it’s a noble profession and I’m even more inclined to think that played a part in my love of animals after hearing your daughter’s experience. Oh that’s ok, we’re just keeping Gene on his toes with the thread tangents .

Bagpuss I found a bit downbeat with the things coming to life & then at the end being told they're just ornaments, much like end of 'The Snowman' when the boy wakes up & discovers him melted. It's like being told there's no Father Christmas.
A song by Gabriel the toad & Madeline the rag doll-

Tell you one I do remember, Roobarb, a purple cartoon cat. Think Richard Briers did the voice. Captain Pugwash anyone with Roger the cabin boy!
