Maybe none of the rest of it is real? Bagpuss just gets stoned and imagines the other things coming to life. To be fair, some of the animated bits, the stories they tell, are pretty phenomenally weird. You can re-live them here D.I.Drake.

Bizarrely the whole thing was shown between February and May 1974. 13 episodes and that was your lot. Given how infrequently I’m told things were repeated back then it’s quite impressive that it is as well known as it is.
