The R101 was a similar (British) design which went the same way a few years earlier Yes, in this instance it flew into the ground in France and caught fire. Airships have never lived up to their promise, there was a current one that crashed recently see this: -

The i360 in Brighton springs to mind or the donut on a stick as it is known locally. Basically for those that don't know it it is a very tall tube with a ring around it that goes up and down. You can see all around Brighton hence the 360 name. Opened with a big fanfare but has struggled to be popular enough to pay back the loan from the council and has had to refer some loan repayments already. My wife went on it said it was ok but I've not bothered yet. Also it tends to break down a lot mostly at the top and there are no toilets on board.

I'm not seeing the attraction of massive donut that goes up and down and ends costing the council money!

Good shouts on the Sinclair C5 and APT. I saw a C5 once only Hideous. Worse than Clive's effort. Gene. Very ugly agreed. Talking about recent cars sharing their names with failures there is an F type Jaguar, apparently. Wonder if Jaguar are aware of the F type Vauxhall which was the all time worst ever rust trap?

I've just been reading about the Dartford Tunnel cycle service bus service which has got to be a candidate. Apparently, bikes weren't allowed through the tunnel so, to cater for them, London Transport ordered five special buses, which were based on the Ford Thames Trader chassis abd, incidentally, were the only double decker Ford ever built.
The lower deck was open and was just a big bike rack and all the seats were upstairs. The service, which ran at very frequent intervals started in 1963, but after about a year, it was clear that hardly anyone used it and the five double deckers were withdrawn and replaced by a single Land Rover, which was more than enough for the job.
One of the buses still exists and is undergoing a long term restoration

There is a current project that is likely to fall into this category, the Ajax tank.
Costing billions and yet to deliver a workable vehicle that can be issued to the army.
The MOD are useless are managing big projects.
