Plot summary from Wikipedia...
When a man is killed at a textile factory, Gene is convinced the culprit is Ted Bannister, the union organiser. Gene pressures Ted into a confession which he gives to save the factory from closure. Gene is happy with the confession, but Sam pushes deeper, and discovers Ted was covering up for a fatal accident. Ted's son is found to have been planning a payroll robbery at the same firm and has stolen guns being tracked by DCI Litton. Sam tries to reason with the robbers and lets his guard down only to be saved at the last second by Gene.
They managed to get the rights to some great songs for the series (Wings, Bowie, The Who etc.). This episode opens with the magnificent Ballroom Blitz by Sweet which is the perfect way to start any TV programme
The format is already very familiar. Gene uses his old school methods to get the case closed as quick as possible, whilst Sam casts a more critical eye on the case, and encourages a more methodical and forensic approach. That said, this is the best episode so far, less about Sam's sanity and more about the murder investigation which, this time out, involves genuine detective work and a clever final solution to the crime.
As well as the soundtrack, the programme gets bonus 70s points for working in a can of Party Seven and a reference to Vision On (best line is "Make DI Taylor a potato print".
Lee Ross appears as DCI Litton from Regional Crime who appears to be an arch enemy of Gene Hunt, the punch up at the end between the two units is both ridiculous and fun.
