Actor Tony Scannell, who played hard drinking 70's style throwback cop, DS Ted Roach for 9 years (1984-93) in ITV police drama The Bill, has died at the age of 74 of unknown causes.
He also featured in Flash Gordon, Evil Never Dies and Waking The Dead. An early role Professionals fans may remember was an un-named villains henchman in the episode "Servant of Two Masters".

I liked him in The Bill, very convincing in his role.

I agree with the other comments here and think that Tony was one of the shining lights in The Bill during the shows heyday. RIP Tony
