I don't know if this has already been posted so apologies if it has but came across this Autocar, feature and gallery of Lost Ford's which never really went beyond the design phase and are featured the book 'The Cars You Always Promised Yourself'
There's a few in there I quite like like the 70's Ford Escort coupé, the mock up MK2 Capri one with pop up headlights, the test 'mules' for the MK3 Escort and Sierra, Sierra Cosworth 3-Door and the MK5 (Visos) Capri too.
Personally wish Ford had have had some daring and put that MK5 Capri in production... it's been successful for Mini (BMW) and Fiat reviving the Mini and 500 over the last few years so couldn't see why a new/possibly retro inspired Capri couldn't either!

Thanks DE, I tried to click on that link but it wasn't letting me look at anything past the first page as it wanted me click on something else where I got a brick wall, but..... the book it talks about "The Cars you've always promised yourself" I can vouch is an excellent read, top quality and some fascinating photos and much info I didn't know about. I ordered myself an autographed copy in its slide-in box cover and was my Christmas present for Dec 2018. Couldn't put it down during the holiday time!
A number of other photos not in the book were on the authors Facebook page for his books, which I'm on and show things like a MK3 Escort cabrio with no roll over bar, that was a mock up and plenty of others. He has written a new Capri specific book although I hadn't got that one, as I felt enough was covered in the earlier bigger book, but I believe he's preparing a third book on further prototypes and Fords that never were, so looking out for that!
Yeah shame we didn't get that retro modern Capri which although not like the original, would have been a nice tribute to the original for todays car buyers.

Gerry, you need to click on the link in DE's post, then when the page opens, the main picture has a orange box in the bottom right corner that says "Slide 22 or 22". You then need to click on that and a pop-up window then opens (on image #22 or 22). If you then hover on the picture, you'll see a left arrow appear. Click on that to scroll back through the various images. Gene.

Nice one Del!
Yes that first Escort coupé was sketched in the 70's so I assume it was related to the 'Brenda' MK2. It could have been a interesting vehicle in the flesh too and the MK3 coupé concept wasn't too bad either!
Again a big, big shame Ford didn't have the nuts to build that MK5 Capril/Visos... it could have certainly revived them in the 2010's in Europe and is certainly a better looking vehicle than the Kuga, EcoSport, etc. they have had out... although I do appreciate why as the market seems to have gone Crossover and SUV crazy recently!

So I then copy and paste the link to another browser then I get a box asking me to allow the ads, which then takes me to a choice of add blockers in the top right corner and no way of choosing which add blocker I want on the Firefox toolbar. I'm on Firefox. It's OK I'm sure many of the pics are the ones in the book it's talking about, which I have. Gerry, I've checked both links posted and they work redirecting to Autocar. Must be a browser issue with Firefox. The advert blocker message is from Autocar and you should allow for that site to see the article: Derek

Just an aside and again I don't know if it's been posted here before but here's some pics available on the web of the original MK1 Escort coupé. Not a bad effort and you can see where elements of it went into the original Capri and the infamous Pinto in the US, but I prefer the Capri a lot, lot more.
