Not sure where to put this so mods please merge if necessary.
When I was a kid, we were bought records by family that were compilations and mostly on a "Surprise Surprise" label which were a series of records released for kids. My favourite by mile was this:
The Scaffold and Ohio Express. Does anyone else remember these?

I remember the songs but have not been aware of such compilations. Although I was born in the early 60s, my parents rarely had music on so I wasn't familiar with the music and the charts until the early 70s when we'd visit cousins and hear them playing things like The Archie's, Sweet, and to my great distaste The New Seekers. I'd certainly heard The Scaffold, The Ohio Express, and Herman's Hermits on TV programs like Crackerjack - "CRACKERJACK!" - but at the time they felt to be a bit of a nuisance break in the program when Peter Glaze could have been on instead. Yes, I remember these records on this label, mostly from the early to mid-1970s it would seem. I think we had quite a few of them at home during the time. I seem to recall Pinky and Perky did a few cover versions of hit records like 'The Pushbike song' by The Mixtures... and others...

I also had a few by Mel Blanc in this series (Bugs Bunny, Tweety Pie etc) and one or two sung by Jon Pertwee but the Scaffold/Ohio Express one is the only "proper" music record I can recall and as a result I played it to death

You'll have to ask Rupert to put your Pinky and Perky album on and let us know what other tracks are on it! Steed

John Steed, Rupert would rather see me stretched across a tennis racket than play a Pinky and Perky album

I'd certainly heard The Scaffold, The Ohio Express, and Herman's Hermits on TV programs like Crackerjack - "CRACKERJACK!" - but at the time they felt to be a bit of a nuisance break in the program when Peter Glaze could have been on instead. Some rare clips of 60s artists survive due to e.g. 'Crackerjack' performances. Interesting to see that US 'bubble-gum band' Ohio Express were on there.
'Blue Peter' had regular musical guests until IIRC Dave Dee, D,B, M & T appeared and sang 'Bend It' and it upset some sensibilities.
The late 60s was a transitional time when the avant garde could appear on family variety shows, prog rock on children's shows etc. Jimi Hendrix on 'Time for Lulu' (1969) being a good example.

"We'd like to stop playing this rubbish and dedicate a song to the Cream" Brilliant.
