Florian Schneider, the co-founder of Kraftwerk, has died, aged 73. Schneider formed the acclaimed German electronic band with Ralf Hütter in 1970 and, over four decades, released 10 studio albums, including the seminal five-track record Autobahn (1974). Bowie’s V-2 Schneider was named after Florian RIP

Just seen the news this morning and as a big fan of Kraftwerk and the music they helped shape, create and influence (and they were influenced from) it’s sad news for me to hear about this. I do know it was health problems which saw him leave Kraftwerk in 2009 so sadly I think he’s lost his fight with it sadly. www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-52564281I’m just proud that I did see Florian as part of Kraftwerk’s line up at Brixton Academy in 2004 – seems so long ago now, as part of the Minimum Maximum tour which was my first time seeing them and perhaps musically a special event for me to have been a part of. I think The Model perhaps from the performace I saw that night is a nice tribute. Suppose it’s said so many times and I am a little biased as a huge fan of Kraftwerk but RIP Florian you along with everyone else in Kraftwerk and the German scene of that period can be proud that you changed and took popular music forward and in the for electronic music – techno, house, electro etc. other forms of it simply wouldn’t have existed without your contributions to Kraftwerk and Kraftwerk’s contribution to music period. Ruhe in Frieden Florian der Mensch Maschine!

RIP Florian. A massive influence on the electronic music movement. OMD / Human League et all owe a lot!
And you built your own instruments too....

Florian was a true musical pioneer. Amazing to think that Autobahn was released only five years after The Beatles split up. Possibly the most influential musician of our time, creating a whole new genre in popular music which we still enjoy today.
I clearly remember watching them on Tomorrows World and being completely blown away by the whole experience :-
So sad to know Florian is no longer with us.

Sad news :( That's interesting, though. When I think of Kraftwerk (I don't really know a lot about them other than that German is good by me!) I think electronic and definitely 80s not 70s. I had no idea there was a previous era.
