That is a superb example GC. I'm not a huge fan of the coupe but that is beautiful. Thanks for posting the smudges Gene.

A guess the only car I’d like in a Coupe’ would be the Capri’ seriously.. though! What a cool car! had a mate back in the 80s who had the 2.8i in a white colour but with all the full body kit on! and tinted windows! What an head turner when ya saw it darn the street! You’d a thought it was a woman lol’

A lovely example GC. I don't remember seeing a lot of these around back in the day. They were quite a rare sight. There wasn't that many big Coupes on the market. I suppose Mercedes were the other ones you used to see a bit from that era.

For marketing reasons, the Ghia spec coupe was the only Granada coupe Ford UK imported from Germany, as over there, you could get them as 1.7 V4 base models through to L, GL and S spec and earlier on a Consul GT Coupe too.
Europe tended to have more of a liking for a bigger family sized coupe, although in Britain the car was marketed as more of a luxury large 2 door coupe to compete against the aforementioned Merc coupes and of course BMW, as a cheaper alternative to them. Opel had a close rival car to the Granada Ghia coupe and that was the Commodore GS 2.8 Coupe, itself a very nice, plush and powerful motor, with a more sportier ride, but more expensive in the UK, hence fewer sold and even fewer survivors today. Have seen the odd one at a Vauxhall/Opel rally.

Cheers Gerry, good info as usual pal. That Commodore looks a bit Victor FE to me. I've never seen one on the road.

Yes it's an interesting looker that Commodore, for me it has bits and pieces of the Victor/FD/Ventora with the forthcoming Opel Ascona/Vauxhall Cavalier along with other GM based designs like Holden's Monaro GTS Coupe.
It's a shame Vauxhall never got some of the hotter Aussie saloons/V8's in the 70's they'd have certainly been head turners compared with say Marina's and Hillman Minx's etc.

If doubt! Just ask Mr Mastermind’ aka D.C Burtonshaw! In the past I’ve sent him pics of obscure parts, belonging to classic motors I’ve seen whilst I’ve been out n about on the road- trying to catch him out! But never yet managed it yet!
