Having really enjoyed working my way through Bowie's discography I'm gonna do exactly the same thing with Lou Reed's solo albums Any other Lou fans in the house?

Lou Reed - Lou Reed (1972)
Hard to understand why RCA gave Lou Reed a solo deal given that the Velvets had done nothing commercially, but they did, and it all worked out pretty well in the end
This debut LP is often dismissed as a footnote in Lou's discography. Many of the songs were Velvets leftovers and, once the Velvets were recognised as a great group, earlier and often better versions emerged. Berlin was revisited to far greater effect a few years later. Yet this solo debut is still very listenable.
Wild Child and I Love You are excellent.
The following tracks made my Lou Reed Definitive playlist…
I Can’t Stand It, Walk and Talk It, Lisa Says, I Love You, Wild Child, and Love Makes You Feel
Not a bad haul from an album of 10 tracks
Weird triv - Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman are among the backing musicians

What do you make of the album he did with Metallica Lord E? It was slated by most people but David Bowie said this- 'Listen, this is Lou’s greatest work. This is his masterpiece. Just wait, it will be like Berlin. It will take everyone a while to catch up.'"

I'll revisit it as part of this latest undertaking
What do you think of it Arthur?

I like parts of it, 'Cheat On Me' in particular.
Unsurprisngly most Metallica fans hate it, Reed said that some Metallica fans threatened to shoot him.

Lou Reed - Transformer (1972) If there’s such a thing as a perfect album then this, for my money, is it I’ve loved it ever since I bought it in the mid 1970s and have never stopped loving it The leap from his debut to Transformer is enormous and, let’s be honest, that is in a big part down to Bowie and Ronson who took these songs to the next level. That said, they are great songs too. Hard to argue that this isn’t the very best album he ever made, in amongst quite a few strong contenders. Every track finds its way on to the Lou Reed Definitive playlist

Lou Reed - Berlin (1973) Berlin was the first album I owned by Lou Reed. I swapped it for a pen with a boy from school. We both thought we got a good deal It seems incredible to me to that Berlin was, apparently, critically panned when it was released. It was also a commercial disaster. I imagine this was especially galling for RCA, the record label, who, after the success of Transformer and global hit single “Walk on the Wild Side”, were expecting more of the same It’s fair to say Berlin is quite challenging compared with Transformer but it’s got many wonderful songs on it, albeit many quite downbeat and maudlin, aligned to a kitchen sink production from Bob Ezrin (best known for his 70s work with Alice Cooper) I really love it and rate it amongst Lou Reed’s best. A few decades on and Reed was selling out major venues playing Berlin in its entirety, but that was a long way hence. At the time it appeared that, and not for the first time, Lou Reed had sabotaged his career It all makes the definitive playlist minus The Kids and The Bed which are great but just too sad for everyday enjoyment
