I've seen this bantered about and noticed that it is Mark Warren in the lead role, perhaps he'll be whistling "Bring Me Sunshine" in every episode? I wish TV companies would let the old ones be. Make a thriller or detective series by all means but don't drag up the names to create a level of credence that can be won or, more likely, lost in the first episode. Sm.

Is anyone going to bother to watch it? I doubt anyone on this forum will Vi I watched it to the 2nd Ad Break out of curiosity, as I watched episode one of the 1991 rehash and that was it.
But last night, got sidetracked with family matters. So may end up watching the rest on catch up just to see.
The opening scenes were pretty tight & pacy (good way to capture the attention of a perhaps sceptical audience). The rest of what I saw seemed long winded, slow and felt like the script had been padded out a bit much.
Considering it's ITV, not too bad an effort. But why another remake?
Have TV producers become that Paranoid that they have to keep rehashing well known shows - in the hope the "name" will pull in the viewers? There's plenty of very talented script writers out there -and plenty of great ideas that get chucked away - a producers are reluctant to take a gamble.
Though, this and the 1991 re-make was no where as near as good as the Euston Films series. There's a moral there somewhere I think!

Gawd knows why they keep trying with the remakes! The Sweeney film might have been slightly less awful if they called it something else although I couldn't take to any of the characters whatever. There must be some good writers somewhere who could come up with original ideas!

There must be some good writers somewhere who could come up with original ideas! There are plenty of writers - aside from Kay Mellor, Sally Wainright, Jimmy McGovern (all great writers). Thing is - if any of the above named writers walked in to pitch an idea or format - they'd stand a good chance of getting it commissioned. If an unknown walked in with the same idea - most Producers wouldn't dare take a punt at it. Such a shame, given that there are so many stories/formats shelved or chucked aside. Though, Sky invest quite a bit in new writers & drama, as do Netflix - and it's them who pay the bigger bucks and put up a good budget for production. That is where most of our decent talent is starting to end up. Budgets for Sky and many Netflix productions are huge compared to ITV.
ITV seems more concerned in it's Entertainment / Celebrity "this & that" / Tits & Teeth and models itself on huge American Broadcasters - but on a budget. Sadly, there are very few Producers around who have a "nose" for something different, entertaining and only from a few notes, can spot good TV - and willing to take at punt on it. We had Ted Childs, Lloyd Shirley, George Taylor, George Markstein at ABC/Thames, Brian Clemens at ABC/LWT, Lew Grade / Charles Denton at ATV. All producers with nuts and a good nose!

I see ITV are doing a remake, starts soon. What are the odds of this being any good... Yes, what a crap idea. What is it about these naive fools, whether it be in the film, television or music industry , that take something that is perfect, be it a film, programme or song and think I know, I can improve on that.........or at least do my bit to tarnish its legacy. God help us.
