Crikey, how do manage to abound them? The first one was out 34 years ago!
Do you have one of the those new fangled tele-visual receivers? Like a mini cinema at home but without the choc ices or national anthem at the end of the performance.

A list of men who have been considered or auditioned for the part, some funny ones amoungst them such as Peter Purves & Peter Snow. In fact I get the impression watching clips of Blue Peter that Purves fancied himself a bit
Funny to think of actors like Trevor Howard & Richard Todd being considered. It seems the producers eventually settled on a 'type' rather than an actor who shared similar qualities or background with the character in Fleming's books, they had a brief based on appearances- tall, dark, handsome, etc. Howard & Todd were none of those things.

Sean Connery felt at the end of his stint on the Bond films that the producers weren't that interested in acting ability anymore as the action sequences and special effects had become so dominent in the films. Which was one of the reasons Sean wanted out. These seems to have been their actual attitude from what I read, at least at that time. If West could have done a fair English accent he might not have been too bad. He had done a TV advert before Batman where he played a secret agent type. George Lazenby who ended up doing the film Adam West was asked to do might have improved in time. I didn't like the fact that they dubbed him in some scenes though. Its obviously George Baker who did the voice over. I think they should have got someone less well known then Baker. I love the film but the dubbing spoils it for me. Charles. Yes, good point. they should have got someone who Lazenby could easily mimic. It's a pity Connery didn't do this film as it's considerably less gadget ridden than the earlier ones, in fact don't think there are any gadgets. Lazenby did OK I thought. It's better than Diamonds in which nobody seems to be trying very hard, it's just dull and Connery no longer looked the part. I've been reading the Fleming original stories (available as a penguin paperback set) In most cases the films depart from the stories quite a bit. Whilst this was needed in some cases as the stories were often short the films often depart from the direction of the book and the add ons are sometimes inferior. As a general rule usually the big action or tech filled stuff is an add on. Quite often some scenes from the book are deleted or the arrangement into the storyline changes. The books are recommended overall. A ten story set is less than 20 quid online.

Trevor Howard! Be better with Trevor Bannister.

Trevor Bannister would've made a wooden Bond Speaking of which Captain Peacock was very Bond-like.

The books have that 50s debonair style that Captain Peacock could carry off Are You Free Blofeld ?

Over 3 issues from 18th Oct to 1 Nov 1975 TV Times ran these features on Bond, according to the first article it was to promote the first ever screening of a Bond film on British tv, 'Dr.No' shown on Oct 28.
18 Oct Issue-
25 Oct Issue-
1 Nov Issue-
By coincidence in the Oct 25 issue there's an ad for Cossack Vodka featuring David Warbeck, the New Zealand born model/actor who ( according to him anyway ) was involved in screen tests, shoots & contracts to play Bond. There's also a smudge of another Bond who never was, Lewis Collins-

Where do you find these TV Times listings Arthur? Are they on line or do you have them in a collection.
The original site with them on has vanished.

Brilliant Arthur, I actually vaguely remember reading that TV Times in 75, as I was looking forward to seeing Bond for the first time!
The first one I saw at the Cinema was The Spy who loved me, still my joint favourite with Live and Let Die.

I've got a couple of discs of scans from 1972-78 ( and some from the 80's ) bought from an ebay seller a long while ago. I've had a look on ebay & there's some on sale for £4.99. I don't think the seller is likely to be the person who scanned them originally, I remember when I bought them the seller made a point of saying in the ad that he had scanned the issues himself & warned against others making copies, saying if he noticed others selling them he would report them to ebay.
