Cheers Gene. Val Guest wasnt a bad director at all. I think he did 'The Day The Earth Caught Fire' and some other films I found enjoyable.
Cheers.

I read in a biography on Peter Sellers that he was tremendously difficult during the filming of 'Casino Royale'. For one thing he absolutely refused to work with Orson Welles, feeling intimated by Welles reputation. The scenes where they were supposed to converse had to be filmed separately and spliced together. The biographer said that Peter eventually sodded off from the production before he had filmed all of his scenes with the of the whole film needing to be restructured because of his early departure. The finished production is not the one that was intended apparently. I was wondering who directed the film, and it's just dawned on me that it might have been John Huston. It always seems a typically sixtyish film to me, especially with that great Bacharach theme tune. Charles. Think Sellers was a very moody individual and completely unreliable, especially as a friend. He kept getting obsessed with various women. I do like a lot of films and radio stuff. Good in front of the lens, crap when behind it.

He was a good actor and a talented man, but I always thought he had borderline mental health issues.

Sellers used to hide behind the characters he played in films to the point where it was a substitute for his own identity and to hide his huge insecurity. He was apparently very difficult to work with.

I've not read any Peter Sellers biographies though I have read a book called 'A Criminal History Of Mankind' by Colin Wilson & Sellers is mentioned in it. As part of a chapter the author discusses Sellers who he describes as a 'Right Man' or 'Violent Man', terms used to describe a personality type characterised by "a manic need for self-esteem, to feel he is a 'somebody'. He is obsessed by the question of 'losing face', so will never, under any circumstances, admit that he might be in the wrong." as well as being violent & intensely jealous. Sellers plays a psychopathic character in the 1960 film 'Never Let Go' ( on talkingpicturestv now & then ) & it has to be said he is very convincing & plays the part with an intensity not often seen in actors. I don't like The Goons or the Pink Panther films at all but he was certainly very talented. Btw, his right hand man Graham Stark ( he was Sellers best man for all his marriages ), also in 'Casino Royale', was by all accounts not very nice at all- dangerousminds.net/comments/peter_sellers_and_the_stark_truth_about_his_pervy_sidekick

His Wikipedia entry doesn't mention it.

Never Let Go is quite good, it's worth catching if it's on TPTV. I didn't know that about Stark, although I didn't know anything about him really, he was one of those bit part actors who turned up in a lot of films/TV, in supporting roles.
He was in Adam Ants Goody two shoes video, a tenuous Bond connection in the video is that Caroline Munro, who was in The Spy who loved me, was also in it.

I've had that same book by Colin Wilson for many years Arthur but I'm ashamed to say that though I've had a brief look inside it ,and it looks like a brilliant book. I still haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I will have try and remedy that this year.
One more thing about Peter was that he seemed to have had a very close relationship with his mother Peg after she had passed on. He told people he was in regular contact with her?
I disagree with you about Inspector Clouseu and The Goon Show though, I love them both.
