Noticed a good little article on vice.com about Forgotten Sneaker (Trainer) Brands from the late 80's.
A good little rundown of some of these like SPX, Troop, LA Gear etc. Was never really a fan of these they tended to be more American/Hip Hop style rather than the stuff my mates and I wore which were more toned down and mostly adidas, Reebok, Nike, Puma etc. and some of them IIRC even at the time looked horrid, totally overblown and as the article says logo's everywhere.
Still from say '88 to '91 these trainers seemed to be advertised everywhere and every Ali-G wannabe of that time seemed to be sporting them... thankfully the Rave scene kicked in making these trainers and tracksuits totally impractical for that... then later in the '90's the 'designer' arms race took off at rapid pace too.

They all faded away. I remeber them from the late 80s and as you say they seemed to be from the hip scene in the main. I never tried any and they weren't really my scene.

I feel like you wouldn't be able to walk properly in the high-topped ones. They look like ski boots! I still don't really "get" trainers like this or, to be fair, modern ones, either. They all seem to be wearing things with an extra wide base or where the heel protrudes 2 inches behind your actual foot? Don't they step on their own shoes and fall over? I sound like my Grannie .

IIRC Alex those boots did dig more than low trainers.

I had to look that up, too. You're clearly much more 'street' than I, Dirty .

And I thought "Travel Fox" was a Bus Company.....

Why were shoulder pads ever a good look?
Seeing shows where people are wearing flared trousers and other 70s gear looks ok but the shoulder pad stuff from the 80s looks bloody awful.

Agree. I actually think 80s stuff now looks more dated than 70s things do. I think 70s stuff generally has a period charm and character but 80s stuff just looks naff and rubbish.
