It's also quite interesting how different the series became by the 70's even though a few cast members were still with it by then, when I first heard the updated (for its time) theme tune it did seem a surprise but you get used to it.
I suppose when people think of Z cars they think of the grainy black and white series, Brian Blessed, MK3 Zephyr police cars and that original military sounding theme tune with a flute (?) doing the melody.
Looks like between 71 and 78 they changed the theme tune 3 times! I personally like the 71 version with the flute and with the Showing of simple day to day life of New town from that era.. The episodes I’ve seen so far, I think are really good. It’s strange because even though most of them are simple story lines, with a slow pace! Which seems to, sometimes take ages to get the point across, They still leave you gripped and intrigued.

My favourite episode on the dvds is 'Damage', without doubt one of the creepiest pieces of tv I've seen. It was worth buying the dvd just for that.

I’ve finished the DVDs now and watched all the YouTube ones too At first I wasn’t that keen on ‘Agger but he definitely grew on me as the episodes went on. Was good that the last episode was there to watch and I will miss Bert. Anyway, onwards to Public Eye now I think.

These episodes have been mentioned on the youtube thread. One featuring Bodie, the other Doyle.
This is Lewis Collins first tv acting role according to imdb aged 28, with Marjorie Yates aged 33 ( 5 years old when she gave birth to Lew's character apparently! ) as his worried mother in a similar role to hers in The Sweeney ep 'May' & Boothroyd from 'Selected Target' as his dad. Lewis does some extreme self isolating in this story & has a strong scouse accent. Lewis said of this episode- "I played a retarded Liverpool lad, locked away in an attic. Very intense. Very introverted"

Unbelievably the police did ask young lads to remove heavy boots outside. Apparently it was pot luck if you got your boots back, especially if they were new. Interesting to see skinheads with the suedeheads before the casual look took over (At least for football yobbos).
