Even though I enjoy the Sweeney more than any other police series, I do feel the writers give the coppers other than Regan and Carter a poor showing. Haskins and the other officers senior to Regan are usually shown to be wrong when in conflict with him. Anyone in uniform is a prat and just gets in the way of the real work, even the other detectives in the squad aren't allowed to be up to much, they are frequently made examples of. Poor old Bill never gets any good lines. Occasionally you get grudging respect e.g. Country Boy and Hard Men, however on the whole everyone other than the two leads are written to be below par. So in terms of don't get, not sure why they wrote it like that. Maybe because that was in an era of when the leads just had to be heroes. There was this culture in the Police in the 60s and 70s, possibly the 80s too (the Bill did touch on it a bit) of this "Them & Us" between the Ranks of the CID & Uniform officers - the 'Sweeney' had both an official police advisor (provided by Scotland Yard) and an Unofficial Police Advisor - who was a serving Flying Squad officer - and a mate of Ian Kennedy-Martins - so info was coming in from both directions.
There was also this culture of "Them & Us" between the lower ranks and the superiors - especially when Robert Mark came in branding all CID offers as rotten to the core, cleared them all out.
I think the Sweeney reflected the attitudes of the time- though, it did portray Regan & Carter as heroes too. They would have needed to, to keep the series going I would think.

This stockpiling issue, maybe we should blag a toilet roll warehouse and then sell them at a huge profit! Trouble is the getaway vehicle is going to have to be huge as the damn things are so bulky. Maybe we should concentrate on rice and pasta which is easier to store.
What about one of these.........

That would do it, except this scene wouldn't work anymore, even with the double quilted stuff. Its the weight you see.

The Italian Jobby.
Just been watching a yt video on Vitamin D & how studies show that a lack of it makes people more susceptible to respitory infections such as coronavirus. It's well worth taking a daily Vit D supplement anyway as we don't get much sun in this country, but now more than ever.
Amoungst all the calls to keep your distance from others I've not heard much practical advice re optimising your health, which is odd given that the healthier you are the better equipped you'll be to deal with it.
Without going into graphic details I've read that wiping your backside isn't the best way to clean it in any case, washing it is. Most people don't have bidets but I find that using the shower ( has to be one with a hose of course ) works a lot better ( and saves paper ) than wiping on messier occasions. Only of any use if you're near a shower but I thought I'd mention it

On the Lav Roll Blag thing...
We've been beaten to it, we've had two local Co-Ops and an Aldi broken into and all the loo rolls nicked. Funny thing is, they didn't even touch the till or the safe.
Shouldn't laugh - though I find it amusing, as it shows a reflection of how selfish society has become.
It could be the "Sweeney" story that Troy Kennedy-Martin never wrote. Just imagine Jack Regan and George Carter on the trail of the "Bog Roll Bandits"

I just don't get these total bastards who are flogging essentials at extortionate prices because of the situation we all find ourselves in at the moment with Covid 19. I nipped out to a local fruit & veg outlet earlier to get a sack of spuds that would last us a few weeks. Last sack I got was £6. Today the shitbag wants £20 for the same sack. I didn't complete the purchase and won't use the place ever again. I've also shamed the git on a local social media page.

Shame Trading Standards can't sort the ba****ds out.
Some of the behaviours I have seen at shops and supermarkets is disgusting. I've seen trolley loads of loo roll and bottled water going into cars, and then seen them pop up "For sale" at outragous prices.
Just shows how one side of society has gone. I wasn't around during WW2, though I gather the spirit and attitudes were totally different.
ITV Calendar News (Yorkshire) earlier showed footage of staff at certain "Tesco" stores being verbally abused and threatened by customers who had been challenged once they exceeded their quota of Pasta / Bog Roll / Bottled Water. Shame they aren't stock piling Common Sense / Manners and Consideration.
Well done for shaming those selling at extortionate rates!!

It is beyond my comprehension why people are so self-centred. I went into Tesco tonight after taking food round to Annie's father. I went in on the off-chance that I may be able to get some fresh meat and veg but there was no chance of that. There was a soap-dodger there with a trolley full of about fifteen bottles of lemonade when he should have been buying body wash.
Anyway, while I was there two of the shelf stacking staff bought out a pallet of bog rolls and immediately people flocked round and started tearing at the outer plastic wrap trying to take three or four packets of nine bog rolls. Thankfully the staff stopped them and proceeded to issue one pack per customer. At first I wasn't going to bother but then remembered that when I went to the khazi at Annie's dad's I'd noticed there was only two rolls left so gratefully received a pack when the assistant offered it to me. After leaving Tesco I took the pack straight round to him.
Perhaps the solution is to lock up the trolleys and make people use baskets, with trolleys being available only for those that are elderly or infirm?
Sam.
