Sad news. He did some great songs and in an easily recognisable style. RIP Kenny.

Very sad to hear the news that Kenny Rogers had passed away this morning. He was one of the best C&W artists imo, and I loved the way his songs told stories. One of my all time favorites :-

As a nipper I found Ruby slightly disquieting. Crippled war veteran with floozy wife, who he thinks of killing.
It's also got a great melody though and, overall, works for me.
Leonard Nimoy did a cover of it - it's not very interesting though
I can't claim to know much about Kenny or his work but, from my limited knowledge, this is his best...
First Edition - Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)
It was thanks to The Big Lebowski that I came across it...

Sad news. I'm not a C&W fan at all but I've always appreciated a couple of Kenny's tunes as they rose above the standard C&W fare.
R.I.P. Kenny

The Gambler and Islands in the Stream, in duet with Dolly Parton were the two of his I thought were OK.
