During my Tesco shopping run noticed she had a new paperback out, The Dirty Dozen, about Tennison joining the Sweeney, sometime in the 80s I think. Bought it on Kindle and reading it now. Good so far.

No, they are mentioned as fictional characters though.

Well, read about a quarter of it, it’s a bit he said she said they said. Not much descriptive stuff or scene setting. I was expecting a lot more from La Plante.

Somehow, I find it hard to imagine Tennyson in the Flying Squad. She'd have been the straight laced "Haskins" type.
If they did an Ashes to Ashes reboot - I'd promote Gene Hunt to the Flying Squad!!

It was sort of interesting in Series 4 of The Sweeney a prototype-Tennyson DCI Barton (Philippa Gail), featured giving George a bit of a b***ocking and perhaps a sign of things to come within The Squad for the '80's and beyond.
Tennyson sort of happened in 2003 when DCS Sharon Kerr became it's first woman boss and Tennyson was based on a few high ranking female officers in The Squad too.
I'm not really a big Helen Mirren fan, can take her or leave her but Tennyson and Regan crossing swords would have been explosive.

On the Sweeney box sets, is an episode introduction with Peter Wight - who says that Lynda mentioned to him that she was "thinking of doing some writing". Little did he know!
For some reason, I used to get Lynda and Carla Lane mixed up... don't know why!
