Really enjoyed the race and I didn't think the lack of crowd detracted too much from the tv spectacle. This will possibly be more apparent at other tracks. Silverstone for one usually is a sell out where you hear the roar of the crowd. Redbull looked like they can take on the Mercs come race day and that is pleasing to see. Both cars looked quick here but its clear the Mercedes is the quickest package. Ferrari still look miles away and cant see them doing a lot. Maybe an odd win for Leclerc could happen. I don't think Hamilton was deliberately looking to punt Albon, I think he was trying to squeeze him to the max knowing Albon had the run on him. Helmut Marko has been in the press saying ultimately Hamilton got away with a minor punishment for totally ruining Albon's race. I have to agree with the point he makes. Surely 10 seconds was more fitting or a drive through for that ? Hopefully the Hamilton Albon rivalry will develop into a battle that plays out with some good clean racing on track.
All in all a welcome return to the racing and I think Austria serves up an interesting race so looking forward to the next round.

Some sort of F1 news which may have gone under the radar, ex-Williams driver Alex Zanardi has been badly hurt in a bike accident whilst competing in Italy recently. I hope he can pull through, it is always nasty when a brain injury is a factor here as shown by Schumacher and tragically Jules Bianchi recently.
All the best Alex and respect for your achievements in motorsport and in being a multiple paralympic gold medalist too.

Fernando Alonso's return to Renault is now confirmed. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/53334608Hope it goes well at the least Fernando is at the sharp end rather than having blown engines running in 10-12th, although I don't expect miracles nor think Alonso will be that different to his McLaren stint if it does go bad. Surely his comeback will be better than Schumi's at Mercedes? I think he's worth a punt from Renault even if it's just for a season to develop the car/team.

I've read up on this today and it was an horrific incident. I've a lot of respect for people such as Alex that have fought back after life-changing injuries to be able to be competitive in another challenging sport so for him to have yet another accident that could have yet further life-changing injuries my heart goes out to him and his family. I wish him all the best for a recovery. Sam

Fernando Alonso's return to Renault is now confirmed. Yes a very good driver but flawed and I must admit that my opinion of Alonso is quite the opposite of your's DE, I wonder how Nelson Piquet Junior feels about it? I also wonder how Hamilton feels about it too? Sorry Dirty but I was glad to see the back of the corruption when he went. Sam.

BIB fully agree with you on those points Sam, he has flaws and I admit big ones and Singapore 2008 was disgusting and the driver it hurt the most was Felipe Massa, who ironically became teammates with Alonso at Ferrari. Was Alonso aware/complicit in that, probably and it is that and some of his other baggage which drags him down for many when considering his F1 record. Have other drivers/teams done similar things? most likely yes but when Alonso is on his game he's one of the best on the grid... it just doesn't always turn up that way sometimes. I think he is a better (safer) bet than Vettel but it's down to him how successful he is in 2021. I suppose meeting him in 2002 and him being reasonable, polite maybe makes me biased... but it'll be interesting how his comeback goes maybe Renault should've taken a punt on a younger driver but they need experience to move them up and Alonso is maybe the best choice available right now. Perhaps the big mistake for Renault was ditching Nick Heidfeld a safe if uninspired pair of hands who'd bring consistent points and very unlucky to never had a podium or even a win he had potential to deliver if he had the right equipment. I think Renault burnt bridges letting him go in 2018! Also F1 itself may have had influence on Alonso's return and may have persuaded Renault to take him on in return for the box office (TV mainly) it will generate next season when hopefully things are more normal, especially if he gets into the Top 6-10 mix on a consistent basis too. A rookie doesn't really do that unless like Lewis Hamilton, Vettel and to a lesser extent Daniel Ricciardo they do something special. Good to have opinion/debate on this comeback too.

Yeah, we don't need any corruption in the sport.
I once worked with someone who had had worked with Colin Chapman and he said he would have gone to prison if he hadn't died and that was confirmed by a radio programme I heard a while back. All to do with the DeLorean scandal. Disappointing when anybody does it but seems worse when people of high ability do it as they otherwise get looked up to.

I'm not sure what Alonso has to prove to come back to the sport - surely there are enough young talented drivers to be chosen. For me I'd love to see George Russell in a performing car - He is clearly an exceptional talent, lets hope Williams get it together and find some better form. Ironic that they nearly scored a point with all the retirements from last weekends race too!
My friends daughter works in the engine team at Mercedes and the insider info suggests that Laurence Stroll dropped a significant amount of money for engines and some of the 2019 blueprints of the car setup - no wonder the Pink Merc - Racing point looks like it does.
Feel sorry for Alex Zanardi :-( shocking news.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching the race, it didn't fail to keep me entertained - I even watched the highlights again and can't remember doing that for a Grand Prix in many years.
How good was that last lap by Lando Norris - to get fastest lap and land a podium, and watch that footage of the lug nut coming of Kim's wheel if you haven't seen it frightening - glad he was under the safety car for most of that it could have been more serious.
Bring on next weekend - I can't wait!
