I have just watched the 2 series of this in a couple of days (was originally aired 2014 and 2016). Looking forward to series 3 hopefully coming out soon. Set in Yorkshire and is just a brilliant, gritty plot, superb acting and great scenery of Calder Valley. Love the accents too! In both series you follow a couple of main plots and as these unfold you realise the links between the characters and events with satisfying conclusions at the end of each series. Sarah Lancashire’s character is brilliant with her home life and work life becoming intertwined. Can’t stop watching it once you’ve started and very intriguing like Life on Mars. Oh and also spotted a character that looked exactly like someone from a Sweeney episode I saw a couple of weeks ago (Stay Lucky) but of course couldn’t be the same chap but turns out to be his son - Joe Armstrong. Highly recommended!

I only actually watched series 2, for some reason I missed the the first one. I did like it and thought Sarah Lancashire was very good in it. Liked the locations too.

Absolutely loved both of series of this exceptional programme
As you say Candy Girl Sarah Lancashire's character is wonderful - the perfect blend of toughness, professionalism and vulnerability
I really hope there's a third series

They seem to shoot this at really obscure times of the year.
I worked on the a majority of first series (caught lots of bad colds) and a few episodes in the 2nd series. The first series was shot during the early Autumn, so you had the slightly longer and warmer days. By S2 they tended to do it all during mid-late November, have a break for Christmas - and then go back out in the depths of January & February. And then keep a week available for pick up shots (stuff they want to re-shoot / add / cut aways / establishing shots and all that).
From the end of S2, Sarah Lancashire wasn't keen on doing another series, though writer Sally Wainwright insisted there were many more stories to explore. Off the back of that, Lancashire then changed her mind.
S3 was put on a backburner because of Wainrights involvement with "Gentleman Jack".
"Happy Valley" was scheduled to go into Production in 2018.... then didn't, so then was scheduled for 2019.... then didn't, so as it stands is now scheduled for (quote) "Some point in 2020"...
That may even change!
If I hear any further developments, I'll update this post!
At the moment the BBC seem to be pushing "Last Tango" - shot not that far away from "Happy Valley".

Please do keep us updated Sparky.
I'd love to see a third series. As I say above, I thought it was absolutely superb
Is Last Tango in Halifax worth watching?
It was also written by Sally Wainwright (who wrote Happy Valley) so guessing it must be pretty good - though a very different vibe to Happy Valley

I love Sally Wainrights work. Also Kay Mellor tends to pop up with some great work too - though these days she seems to be more mentoring new writers (rightly so) via her own production company in Leeds - and when not doing that, she's Directing. I quite like "Last Tango".
But I do hope "Happy Valley" gets a 3rd series - still plenty to explore.

Will have to give it a try! I could write a book on my thoughts of the current state of the BBC....
Since the BBC Board was abolished and replaced by Hired Hair Dos and overseen by Politicians - it's turned into a politically correct, penny pinching affair.
They are now even tinkering with scripts, ensuring there is a dollop of PC / Green Issue topic thrown in there too. They've already done this with the current "Dr Who".
But with "Happy Valley", S3 is aparently on the cards - the official story is that Wainright is waiting for one character to "grow" up so more stories can be developed around them. (As what they did with Cold Feet - but left it 20odd years!)
Whether it's the full story is anyones guess!

Last Tango in Halifax is good, I like it, Sarah Lancashire is in it and she’s very good,as is Derek Jacobi. I like the locations in both this and Happy Valley
