Sad news today that Derek Fowlds has passed away. Derek leaves a marvellous legacy of work that has been enjoyed over many decades and will continue to be for many more. I was fortunate enough to hear Derek speak about his career at the recent ITC event at Elstree. He had the audience laughing away as he recalled the many projects he was involved in over the years.
RIP Derek

RIP Derek, thanks for your contribution to film and TV over the years.
Glad you had the chance to have a good chat with him at the Elstree event too Del, sounds a good sort.

Sorry to hear this sad news. I too saw him at Elstree in October and even though he looked frail as he got on the stage, once he was chatting away you could see how sharp his mind still was and it was lovely to hear him talk about his life. He kept us well entertained. RIP Derek.

Sad news. He had the ability to be a success in everything he did. Mr Derek on the Basil Brush Show, Bernard in Yes Minister and as as Oscar Blaketon in Heartbeat to name but three. RIP

Incredibly sad news. At the ITC event at Elstree Studios late last year I had the privilege to have a good chat with Derek. He was so down to earth and genuinely pleased that I knew a lot of the characters he had played over the years, not just Oscar Blaketon. He was very frail but he was very sharp minded. I spoke to him of his role as Mr Meadhurst in the Minder episode "Dead Met Do Tell Tales" and he laughed out loud as we remembered some of the scenes he was in with George Cole.
A genuinely lovely chap. A bright light in the golden era of television that has gone to join an ever increasing number of people like him.
God bless you Derek. RIP.
