Tony Britton dies aged 95, daughter Fern Britton confirmed today. He died earlier this morning.
Britton was best known for starring in BBC sitcom Don't Wait Up alongside Nigel Havers in the 1980s, (which I remember watching at the time as a schoolkid) as well as many British films including The Day of the Jackal.
He also appeared in Robin's Nest alongside Richard O'Sullivan and Tessa Wyatt, and films Operation Amsterdam as well as Sunday Bloody Sunday.
I also remember him appearing in episodes of The Saint, and Special Branch (earlier pre Euston series).

Sad news indeed He was very good in Don't Wait Up with Dinah Sheridan and Nigel Havers. Living to 95 is quite an achievement though. R.I.P. Tony

Sad news so close to Christmas, RIP Tony Britton. I liked his attempt at a Brummie accent in Day Of The Jackal and his guest role in The Saint was quite memorable too. Villain

I know, he sort of adopted a posh RADA voice throughout his (very successful) career but reverted to Brummie for 'Jackal' . In the mood to watch it now... Villain

A big loss. I always liked everything he appeared in, but especially his role in Robin's Nest. R.I.P.
