Remember skidding on some ice in dad's Austin 1100 and hitting a fence one snowy morning in December 78! Didn't do much damage fortunately 😉

Here's another similar BBC film featuring Yorkshire police. It's 30 mins long, the last 10 mins are a blank screen.

I saw that as well Arthur. Another time capsule that shows some of the developments in the decade when compared with the Manchester video. Plus the motors of course!

Great clip! Lots of old cortinas and northern accents! That police Range Rover looked as quirky as a tv license detector van from the same era lol! the whole program makes ya realise how things have changed! Like the police Range Rover towing that other car with a bit of rope. I remember the traffic cops wearing those peak caps but with a white version. GC

Where had Gene Hunt moved to by 1979? I was still in Stockport dealing with scum. It was another 18 months before we moved south to the Metropolis. Gene Genie.

Oh god. Get out of the road, boys! Can you imagine that being done now? I haven’t had a chance to watch the whole thing but I love any footage of back then. And the accents will keep me going if nothing else . Thank you for sharing. Makes me wonder what else is on YouTube!

Some astounding ad-hoc procedures in evidence all over the shop. Slip back into January 1979 DI Drake, pour yourself a Cinzano, assume the position and watch the whole lot in one serving. Then repeat again at your leisure as there’s details you will have missed the first time as there’s a mass to take in. It’s certainly the best thing the YouTube algorithm has thrown my way of the time.

Oh no! I shouldn't wish to imagine any of you getting hurt. Presumably, however, you walked away from it!
Well with the weather as beautiful as it is, I may just have time to do just that!
