Piece of trivia on Back to the Future is that the charachter of Biff was based on Donald Trump! Wonder if they knew something at the time we now know! Really? Funny thing - when my kids were watching Back to the Future 2, my eldest said that Biff reminded him of Trump and Trump Towers.

I never really sat and watched "UFO" properly, though it's always been on in the background when it was repeated. What amused me a little was that - the first series was made in 1969, aired in 1970. The series was set in 1980.... I just loved the ideas for what life would be like 10 years later!!
Just a question to any of the forums Car Enthusiasts...
The cars used in UFO were obviously modified/customised - were they actual cars beforehand, if so what?
I think I read a while back that Strakers car was partly based on a MK4 Ford Zephyr underpinnings but was surprised when they said it only had a 1300 CC engine! Apparently Ed Bishop couldn't lift the heavy canopy on getting out the car in scenes, and off camera someone was lifting it up for him with Gas strut "sounds" dubbed over later.
I suppose one car that wouldn't have looked out of place but not sure if it was launched in time for filming by 1970, would have been the Citroen SM........ although by 1980 cars like SD1 Rovers and Citroen CX's were in production so there was a slightly accurate prediction!

I always think programmes like UFO, which were set in the not too distant future portray it as a slightly exaggerated version of what was the latest trends of the time they were being filmed. A lot of JG Ballard's work was like that I suppose it's a 1970's version of the 1990's, 2000's etc. some of which came true some of which didn't.
The closest one I think which got it sort-of right was the original Blade Runner which was set in 2019 and has looks scarily similar to what we have now. I also think Ridley Scott used some of the Gerry Anderson/ITC special effects people like Brian Johnson etc. on this like he did on Alien a few years earlier - to great effect too.
The sequel Blade Runner: 2049 was okay-ish but was not a patch on the original film and it's the original one I recommend to everyone on the forum.
Yes I know.

The Citroen SM is certainly a great shout Gerald. It would only need a small amount of dressing to lose the stock look. A ready made made future inspired motor. I can't see car companies being so bold in design these days. Everything looks so similar doesn't it?

Great find! Magazines often pop up at memorabilia fairs - prices tend to vary. Not yet seen any of those UFO ones. Must look out for them.

Some more photos from the archives. Apologies it's taken a little while to add them!
My need a little help with a couple of the faces in them - so bear with me.
#1) George Sewell; I think a little before the "Special Branch" days.
#2) Wanda Ventham - a few years before her appearance in The Sweeney 'Abduction'.
#3) George Sewell and Gabriella Drake. (Don't remember her wearing the Purple wig in Crossroads )
#4) Work on one of the crafts...
#5) Gerry Anderson (L), Ed Bishop (R) - struggled to remember the face in the centre.
#6) ED Bishop (R) - who's in the car, is it George Sewell? This on the backlot at Elstree.
#7) Great Car Ad....
8) George Sewell & Ed Bishop
9) Gabriella Drake
