That Le Mans film does look quite good, which is a bit strange because I'm not a motor sport fan, but I did enjoy the film Rush, about Hunt v Lauda. I remember another film from years ago that I quite liked, I think Paul Newman was in it and it was from the late 60s Winning from '69 He liked racing so much he formed the Newman/Haas racing team who did quite well.

I am not entirely sure that the "Imax" they promote in Cinemas these days is the same as the original "Imax".
For a start - original Imax was very expensive to Shoot on, Process and even Project. It even had to be handled slightly differently to normal gauge film.
Imax used a 70mm film (double that width of 35mm) - which ran Horizontally through the Camera and Projector (instead of the usual vertical). This gave a much larger frame width - and when projected correctly (A 5000w arc lamp was used) gave very impressive results. I was lucky enough to the the original Imax when it opened in Bradford in the 1980s - and was totally blown away with the picture quality, combined with 6 channel surround - used sparingly.
They showed a film on Space Exploration and material shot from the Space Shuttle orbiting earth. There was (aparently) a print of Kubriks "2001 Space Odyssey" done in Imax. Even the Auditorium had a much steeper rake than normal cinemas.
So - chances are - the Imax being promoted in mainstream cinemas today is a digital version.
I haven't (yet) visited one of these new Digital Projection suites to see for myself. Though I would quite like to.
I went to that Imax myself at around the same period, I have sister who lives near Keighley. Think I saw some of the same stuff. It's great for documentaries, not sure I could stand it for a 2 hour main feature. I think there may have been and under water one too. Though, may be mixed up with the old 70mm "Cinema 360" and "Cinema 720" they used to have in those large domes at Theme Parks. Those films featured a US Car chase & shoot out, a flight over the Grand Canyon, a trip on a monster Roller Coaster etc.
Our local VUE cinema has a one off showing of "Blues Brothers" advertised. I would love to see it on the big screen - though am slightly worried considering my last experience!

The Most recent film I saw was "Once Upon a time in Hollywood" which I thought was entertaining but is a made up story loosely based on real life characters but the real thing didn't happen (although a shame actually it didn't...) Some great period props as it's set in 1969. Don't normally go for Tarantino films though, physocotic violence for the sake of it, though this is not quite the same.
Yes I do want to see Le Mans 66 too but I expect it to be inacurrate though!

I've just read elsewhere that many of the cars used in 'Le Mans '66' are spot on, a few real GT40s were used for close up and static shots but the rest were built by a company called Superformance, brand new replica / continuation cars built to about 95% original spec as per the '60s cars. I've seen some of these in the metal at various car shows and chassis numbers and brake parts aside, they could pass for one of the genuine cars. One of the major inaccuracies is the appearance of some 1966 and 1967 P3 / P4 Ferraris in a scene that's supposed to be set in 1964 / 65. I'm now relaxing with a brew and perusing photos and footage from Le Mans in that period.... to paraphrase the late lamented Lou Reed, man those were different times... whatever the faults of the film are I just know that once I've watched it I'm going to be yearning for a GT40 replica (again). There were a few of these at the recent NEC classic car show and standing next to one, even though you know it's a replica, they look so damned good and convincing at close quarters.... Villain

Same for me on the violence. He gets really upset when any interviewer brings it up as well.

Re-reading my earlier comment I meant to say The storyline (of the fim) is fictional, but shame things in real life didn't work out the way they did in the film. Tarantino's "point" in the film (he is always "making points" apparently in a lot of films) was it's about a hero that always wins, and that's what we expect from Hollywood so he tells a story starring real life people, ending in a way we want it too.

Even longer for me, Arthur. About 25 years ago now. As a single moggie for a number of years I don't really have the urge to go to the picture house these days. Vi Crikey, 25 years! Think that was one of the Laurel and Hardy ones. Did a piano come out of the floor just in front of the screen? You'll be amazed if you go now. They've added sound, you can actually hear what the people are saying! It might have been 35 years, 3L! Time flies Vi
