I remember that John Malcolm tune well used on the news, as a child, still used on some regional bulletins as the closing theme in the early 80's.
Talking of news theme tunes we all must remember this surely!:

Never heard that theme in full before. Funny how when the saxophone comes in it instantly dates the music to about the 1950/60's.
The closing music to Newsround is the last few seconds of this theme-

On the freezed clip - this is in the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. The guy at the back is either Roger Limb or Paddy Kingsland... can't remember which!

Yes, Newsround is on CBBC. I was thinking the other day why there hasn't been dedicated children's shows on weekday afternoons on BBC1 or ITV for years. They're tucked away on separate channels.

I've thought about the absence of kid's programmes on the main channels a lot lately. I think it was so much better when we had them. I wonder for example what the viewing figures are now for say 'Blue Peter' I bet they are nowhere near what they were years ago when it was shown on BBC1. I've noticed that an awful lot of the programmes on the dedicated kids channels are very trashy and very annoying American cartoons, though I'm sure some of the other programmes are ok.

I think the BBC were the last to broadcast Childrens TV programmes on mainstream BBC1 a few years back. One of the last shows broadcast was Blue Peter, prior to the move to CBBC.
ITV I think followed suit shortly after (may be wrong) and replaced the programmes with some manky light hearted afternoon chat shows.

I certainly remember that one Gerry and it has reminded me of this one that started around a similar era of the very early 70s if my memory serves me correctly: Sam.
