Did anyone watch the first episode last night?
I'm intrigued because I could not be bothered but seeing some reviews today shows it as ranging between passable and dull. Nothing glowing there then!
I've not watched the past few series either and the only glimpses I had of them show them to be pretty naff, the 'banter' contrived and badly rehearsed and the presenters to be nothing better than s.
I certainly don't feel inclined to watch this series because two of the presenters are Chris Harris from previous series ( ) and Paddy McGuinness who I recommended for Room 101 and who I put on a par with Russell Brand - and we all know how much of a he is! The third presenter is Freddy Flintoff who I know very little about apart from the fact that he used to wear white and play 'bat and ball' which a bunch of other blokes - he's certainly not a motoring journalist.
Is it time to bury the program or time to take it back to its origins?
Sam.

Well, bury this version. Haven't liked any of the incarnations since that steak meal. I do think the BBC had little option to not renew Clarkson's contract, he was being a real idiot. What amazes me is that the verbal tirade he was giving to the guy went on for some while before he started hitting the bloke, why on earth did no one step in and take Clarkson to one side and put him straight? Thats what I would do if it happened where I work, no matter who the aggressor was. Clarkson ruined his version of TG himself, which was a pity.

One Room 101 occupant (Clarkson) replaced by another (McGuinness) Haven't really watched it since William Woolard was on it. I stick to Thames TV Drive car reviews from the 70s!

Totally agree Sam. The show had "something" under the Clarkson/Hammond/May era - though Clarkson can be irritating; the programme was still watchable.
I caught the first series without them, and I think I watched about 2 minutes of it before switching over (that INCLUDES the opening titles). As for this series - I haven't even bothered - the trailer was enough to put me off!

I can (just about) remember the show when Angela Rippon and sometimes, Noel Edmonds used to present it - when it was some little show out of BBC Pebble Mill in Birmingham!!

I remember those early ones fairly well too. There was also Chris Goffey who I could only describe as next best thing to a college lecturer with his grey beard and elbow patches on his tweed jacket.
Important issues of the day were not top speed, acceleration, or crossing continents in totally inadequate cars, but rear passenger headroom, boot capacity, and the height of the boot opening.

Why oh why does the BBC continue to produce this show ? Is it in a vain attempt to outlast Clarkson and co ? TBH, I thought Top Gear the Clarkson years was getting very stale near the end and the whole controversy that ended it actually made the Grand Tour a better show (than late T.G). Clarkson was lucky that the whole affair made for the freshen up the format needed. He fell in a bucket of shite and came out smelling of roses I've only watched a couple of the Top Gear's post Clarkson and its awful. Everything from the presenters to the content <- For me It needs to be shelved and given a bloody good rest then brought back with some fresh thinking. I won't bother with it again until such times.

Sam. It's hard to imagine Angela Rippon driving across Africa in a clapped out Volvo or something.
It started life as an informative show - that would (today) be under the badge of 'Consumer Affairs' - as all those other tedious programmes with Dom Littlewood / Matt Alwright etc. Though the informative angle went years go, and it became 'Entertainment'...
Didn't they used to also do a "Top Gear Sport" programme; I am sure I saw a bit of it on BBC2 sometime in the mid 90s?
