My brother has bet on horses for years. He boasts that he could retire & just make a living betting on horses. What's annoying is that he probably could. I've noticed that with people who bet regularly, if they get any good tips they keep it to themselves but when they then win they tell everyone about it. Yes, I'm really pleased for you dear brother that you won more cash than I might make in months. He won £4,000 recently, I am supposed to be happy for him?
Never really understood people's liking for horses, they're too big to pet & cuddle and they strike me as unpredictable and aggressive.
Another activity I've wondered about since I've got older is going to the swimming baths. Used to enjoy it as a kid but now I just think of it as like sharing a bath with strangers

There are (or more than likely these days, were) people who made a living out of winning on the Fruit Machines. C4 did a documentary about two brothers who did nothing but travel on the ferries. They would sit and watch people chucking money in these machines, and then move in when the time was right and get the jackpots.
How it worked was, each machine could only hold so much money at one time; so when it got to a certain stage, it would have to pay out. Also - the reels maps repeated themselves every 100,000 or so spins; and when the machines were reaching this limit, certain lights would flash in a particular order.
The show made out that the these chaps didn't have a Gambling Addiction - they had just found an easy way to make money. Basically - you had to know what you were looking for.

I remember this episode. Bless Gareth Hunt - fresh from the "New Avengers" - was this before the Coffee Ads?

I think Gareth was in the coffee ads from 1979 through into the 80s. His Minder appearance dates from 1982 (filmed in 81 I think).
Gene.

One for those who never appeared in the sweeney - Gareth Hunt!

The Head ads were for Nescafe Gold Blend, or 'Taster's Choice' as it was known in the US & Canada where they kept the couple but gave Head a yank accent

I haven't seen the US adverts. Do you mean to say they re-dubbed Anthony Heads dialogue with US Accented actors?
Redubbing - or re-voicing, is certainly one of my pet-hates.
