I don't get why cravats went out of fashion, ties can be so formal at times so the cravat is the perfect neckwear. Lord B. This is so random that I approve, but don't go deterring gents from ties

I didn't think it was weird then but since then I haven't found another school where the girls wore ties. Yes I am a girl, I swear.

Two words: morning people! They do seem to be the majority and I get that for many people it’s not a choice - they have kids or they have a long commute or whatever but those people who get up really early when they do not have to! My colleagues are all morning people and all enjoy taking the mick because I’m really not. I think I was meant to be nocturnal.

The dreaded bug knows no bounds. My heart goes out to your friend and his family, and of course yourself. Gene. Thanks Gene. You just don't expect it in someone who is younger and fitter. Not logical I know. Very sorry to hear of your friend's diagnosis 3L, I hope he's able to make the most of his time that he has left with his loved ones. Sadly the bug is indiscriminate such that age and fitness doesn't seem to count for much. In recent years I have lost two very good friends to it, both younger and fitter than me, so it can be difficult to comprehend. All you can do is to keep him and his family in your thoughts, offer assistance, keep in regular contact and visit periodically to assure them that they are not alone. Sam.

I have never been able to make a decent tie knot. I actually had to wear one every day from year 7 to 11. I didn't think it was weird then but since then I haven't found another school where the girls wore ties. Yes I am a girl, I swear. Our son and both of our daughters had to wear ties from the day that they started school right up until the day they finished. This was through five different schools through the 90s, 00s and into the 10's. There were always gripes about uniforms as every school has every year, especially when shelling out for it all, but it does look better. Oddly I still have both of my old school ties from when I finished school in '78. Other kids cut up their ties on the last day as an act of defiance but that wasn't for me, I enjoyed school and wanted to keep hold of the ties. Sam.
