Yes, Nigel Kneale hated him in the role, took the mickey out of him and apparently he had the actors curse of the demon drink.
The Goons did a brilliant mickey take of this serial, called the Scarlet Capsule, funniest episode they did.
You need to have watched the serial first.

The film version is on at 10pm tonight on Talking Pictures, Sky 328, for comparison purposes.
Watch out for Gareth Thomas (Blake in Blakes 7) as the workman who discovers the capsule in a very early scene.
Also Julian Glover (Queens Pawn) as shouty army person.

Yes Charles, Barbara Shelley is the first lady of British horror. She's 87 now and retired from acting but she still does the occasional Blu-ray commentary on some of her films. Sadly she had a stroke a few years back.
