I saw this a few years ago and thought EW was on top of his game, giving an excellent performance as the angry, reluctant state assassin. You really could feel every emotion he was going through as he went about his job, only he was very good at it. Anthony Valentine was suitably vicious and sadistic as Toby Meres. I enjoyed watching this.

Yes , EW played it very well.
I suspect the plots would seem a bit samey by the end of a series but it was a good anti-James Bond view of this type of work.
Caine as Harry Palmer had a similar approach.

From what I have seen of Callan it seems very bleak and formulaic in places...
I am trying to get into it but can't quite get 'stuck in' as it were!
Still some great bits though and some great supporting actors also. I will continue to watch in the hope that I can start to really enjoy it...
