Researching the Unit 4+2 hit Concrete and Clay which was a number 1 hit in 1965 I found a cover version worthy of this thread....
Unit 4+2 - Concrete and Clay -1965
Kevin Rowland - Concrete and Clay - 1999

Kevin doesn't look too healthy in that one Del, only seventeen years between Come On Eileen and that load of pony and he hadn't fared too well. I was listening to a mix of stuff on Youtube including some Billy Idol when Rebel Yell appeared - but not the version I knew. First the original: Now the pony: Sam.

I was outside in the garage this afternoon then walked in to the kitchen to find Annie playing the Pussycat Dolls. I was not impressed with what I was hearing and told her so. She agreed that the cover was nowhere near the standard of the original:
Original:
Second-rate cover:
Why is it that the group of five singers can make a song sound so weak compared with a solo artist?

Good call Sam. Well and truly shameful remake.

Unit 4+2 - Concrete and Clay -1965 Kevin Rowland - Concrete and Clay - 1999 The best version of that song in my opinion, was Randy Edelmans 1976 effort, which I think is excellent

Donna Summer was a class act, the Pussycat Dolls attempt is poor

Why is it that the group of five singers can make a song sound so weak compared with a solo artist? Sam I can shed some light on this. Their leader is Nicole Shitsinger Joking aside I played the two versions above and you're spot on Samuel. There's more depth and roundness in Donna's version than The Dolls track. Meek is how i'd describe it. Must say though the updated backing track isn't too bad.

Playing some Fleetwood Mac on Youtube tonight I searched on "Gold Dust Woman" and was met by these abominations.
Original:
Abomination 1:
Abomination 2:
I can't see how anyone could consider the rasping voices of the covers could ever come close to the smoother vocals of Stevie Nicks?
Sam.
